About Us
Jim Bendewald is the owner of CompuTALK, based in Madison
Wisconsin, which has been in
business since 1992 and the speech recognition business since 1995. It
began when a couple of disabled clients wanted speech recognition. Jim started
as a reseller for Kolvox which sold the Kurzweil speech engine. In those days speech recognition was all "discrete speech" meaning one
word at a time. It was slow and produced many errors. But discrete
speech was still an excellent tool for those with disabilities.
About a year later Jim became a reseller for IBM ViaVoice
and became a
Dragon dealer in 1997. In 1998 Dragon came out with the first continuous
speech recognition program. It did not have the full-featured capability
of Dragon Dictate but the accuracy was radically improved.
CompuTALK is currently
selling and supporting Dragon NaturallySpeaking 9. It is the most
advanced, powerful and accurate program ever. Jim provides training
and technical support for businesses and individuals around the country using
over-the-internet training. New this year is the training SpeakEASY
DVD for saving time and money.
One area of specialty is
creating custom macros specific for the client's needs. Custom macros help
the user to make NaturallySpeaking the most productive tool on their
computer. Jim also has the CompuTALK Custom
Macros which is a collection of general macros that are easy to remember
and fast to execute.
Jim has written two booklets called
QuickNotes and QuickMacros.
QuickNotes lists standard commands built into Dragon NaturallySpeaking.
QuickMacros provides directions (with screenshots) for how to build ones own
custom macros. These booklets
help users be more productive while using Dragon NaturallySpeaking. CompuTALK remains committed
to serving its customers with care and professionalism.
