Q:
It's good, but is it ready yet?

A:

Far too many people have heard that speech recognition is not ready yet for professional use. And some people have tried it out for themselves and have come to the same conclusion. Some people have read articles indicating in the end it is not quite ready yet. But before you give up on Dragon NaturallySpeaking Professional please note the following arguments.
1) Professionals, (i.e., doctors, lawyers, police) use specific vocabularies, the more specific the vocabulary the easier it is to obtain higher accuracy.
2) Most people are unaware of the various tools/tips for enabling high accuracy for the first day of using NaturallySpeaking. For example, Vocabulary Builder-- this feature alone analyzes user documents, and based on these documents it helps to create a highly accurate user profile for NaturallySpeaking.
3) Most people who try the program are actually trying NaturallySpeaking Preferred, that's like a surgeon being limited to common kitchen utensils. NaturallySpeaking Professional is the program that professionals need in order to obtain high accuracy without wasting time and energy.
4) Most people who try the program are doing it on their own without any professional assistance and therefore have no understanding of how to correct problems, use shortcuts / macros or how to create new macros that solve user problems.
5) The magazines that review Dragon NaturallySpeaking only review the Preferred edition. They are not professionals at speech recognition and they don't receive professional training. This is like a teenager reviewing an economy car to determine the quality of the luxury model!
6)  Most people I run across who have complaints about using a speech recognition program had a bad experience (or knows someone who had a bad experience) with some other program or a far earlier version of Dragon.  Given the right hardware and professional training Dragon NaturallySpeaking is fast and accurate.
7) NaturallySpeaking Professional has been an excellent means of transcription for doctors, lawyers etc, since version four, we are currently on version seven. IT IS READY!
